Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM)

Marine Inspection Services are certified by ABS, DNV, BV, LR, NK and RINA to perform ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) on ships.

UTM surveys can range from a few hundred readings on a small vessel up to 50,000 for a large vessel with CAP requirements. All our inspectors have years of experience conducting ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) surveys and are all qualified to minimum PCN level 2.

With UTM surveys being such a major part of the special / intermediate / CAP survey we are able to assist the owner or manager to reduce the pressure on them.

MIS can assist through all the stages, from preparation of the planning document, organisation of the ballast / survey program, completion of UTM requirements to Class rules and accompanying the Class surveyor if required.

From the ultrasonic thickness measurement survey, we produce a steel renewal report to cover any areas of substantial or renewable wastage and can provide supervision of repairs at the shipyard if required with qualified steel inspectors.

MIS are trusted by the Class Surveyor to perform the UTM survey with minimal supervision.
